How Can I Ever Plan for a Fully Integrated Curriculum?

It's really all about supporting and facilitating the learning processes of your students. A preset curriculum plan is really only a starting place.  Once you have that (and you know the standards you're attempting to meet), then create a curriculum map. That is, from your starting point, through the various and possible connections and finally to the outcome.  IT would be truly beneficial if you have a standardized test that you are preparing students for, you also have holistic assessments as a regular practice, along with self-assessments of the students.

  • The broader the scope, the more likely you are to see more students achieve learning success.

So, let's MAP it out:

  1. The context are the outcomes and standards.

  2. The integrated learning process includes the projects, the activities, the homework, and the discussions.

  3. The assessments include quizzes, tests, exams, presentations, demonstrations, and the applied learning examples.

TIP: Integrating curriculum means providing possible and relevant connections for students. Think MAP!
