The 20th annual Williamson Medical Center charity golf tournament will be Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Vanderbilt Legends Club of Tennessee. Funds raised from the event will benefit the Fay Porter Memorial Medical Scholarship and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital Vanderbilt at Williamson Medical Center. Last year, more than 25 scholarships were awarded to students pursuing medical, nursing and pharmacy degrees and this year, portions of the money raised will also benefit Williamson County's first children's hospital, which is slated to open next summer on the WMC campus.

Morning flight registration and breakfast begin at 7 a.m. with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Lunch and presentation of awards will follow play. Afternoon flight registration and lunch begin at noon with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. A buffet-style meal and awards presentation will follow play.

The Champions for Children Golf Classic tournament features a four-person scramble; putting contest; mulligan package; door prizes; player gift bags; and prizes for flight winners, longest drive, closest to pin and hole-in-one.

Sponsorship levels range from $250 to $5,000, and sponsors will be recognized in tournament publicity. For registration and additional information, call Steve Smith, Williamson Medical Center Office of Development executive director, at 615-435-5170 or visit www.williamsonmedicalcenter.org to register online for one of the few remaining team spots.

This annual golf tournament, formerly known as the Fay Porter Memorial Golf Tournament, has provided more than $100,000 in medical scholarships over the last 19 years. The Fay Porter Memorial Medical Scholarship was named in 1995 in memory of Fay Porter, a well-known friend of the Medical Center. Porter passed away at the Medical Center in November 1994 after a long battle with cancer. Scholarships are awarded based on career goals, academic record and service to the community.
